Perched atop Jumati Mountain, approximately 15 km (9.3 miles) from Ozurgeti, lies the enchanting Jumati Monastery. Revered for its connection to Archangels Michael and Gabriel, this ancient complex not only holds religious significance but also offers captivating vistas of the surrounding landscapes.

Jumati Monastery's storied past dates back to the 6th century, with its central edifice, St. Archangels Church, standing as a testament to architectural brilliance. Throughout the centuries, it underwent meticulous renovations, adorned with intricate frescoes in the 18th century, and served as a repository for sacred relics and icons during the tumultuous period between the 15th and 19th centuries.

Dmitri Ermakov's camera lens immortalized Jumati's treasures during the Russo-Turkish conflicts of 1877-1878, providing invaluable historical insights. However, the early 20th century brought challenges, including looting and the loss of precious relics. Fragments of a golden St. George icon found their way to the Hermitage Museum, a testament to the enduring spirit of the monastery.

Despite trials and tribulations, Jumati Monastery's spiritual flame endured. In 1990, its hallowed halls once again resonated with prayer and worship. Today, the complex not only houses the majestic St. Archangels Church but also includes the smaller Khare and Mirkami churches, along with a bell tower. A steadfast stone wall envelops this sanctuary of history.

Perched at an elevation of 492 meters (1614 feet) above sea level, the monastery's courtyard provides a breathtaking panoramic vista. Feast your eyes upon the Colchis Plain, the tranquil Paliastomi Lake, the eastern expanse of the Black Sea, and the graceful silhouette of Ialbuzi mountain. As you explore, you'll unravel tales of devotion, artistic mastery, and unwavering faith.
